An introduction to the fundamental principles of oceanography for non- science majors, and the application of those concepts to areas of interest and concern in our contemporary technological society. The marine environment is investigated in terms of basic scientific concepts, and topics discussed include plate tectonics and earthquake prediction, the impact of ocean pollutants, climate fluctuations, cetacean intelligence and resources from the sea.
